At Sunday the 23th of August, we are organising an ecological fair ECO&ZO at the same place – some constructions at the fair will also be used during the ESBG.

"education and training in strawbale building"  
In some European countries strawbale building is actually booming. The self builders are already convinced, now we need well educated straw professionals to cope with the growing interest in sustainable strawbale houses.   A small gym of the local primary school is functioning as building site for the demonstration-workshops of the ESBG 09: during these demonstrations and workshops we will build parts of the strawbale walls of this gym. Pupils of a technical secondary school (section wood) are designing and constructing a part of the gym as a try out for a SB-education-programm.

Special guest: David Eisenberg
David has been inspiring many natural builders and strawbale builders for many years now. We are glad and proud that he is willing to come to the ESBG 2009 as our special guest, sharing his knowledge, his experience and his enthusiasm with us! We are still working out his exact contribution,  ranging from demonstrations during the workshop on straw and on plaster to lectures and brainstorming in working groups on specific themes.

Sinds het midden van de jaren ‘90 begon strobalenbouw overal in Europa te groeien. Na een tijd zochten de verschillende Europese stro-pionieren over hun grenzen heen contact met elkaar op, eerst informeel en persoonlijk, later ook meer georganiseerd op internationale strocongressen. In 2002 vond de eerste European Straw Bale Gathering (ESBG) plaats in Oostenrijk, 2004 in Denemarken en 2007 in Duitsland.

Casa Calida was vertegenwoordigd op de ESBG 2007 in Duitsland, in de eco-commune Sieben Linden. We hebben vier dagen lang in een alternatieve sfeer het veganistisch eten en de kompost-toiletten gedeeld met stro-architecten, strobouwers, timmerlui en lemers van all over Europe. We hebben met hen over strobouw vergaderd, naar presentaties gekeken, in kleine groepjes gebrainstormd, nieuwe ideeën en impulsen uitgedacht en uitgewerkt. Het was pure uitwisseling van kennis en ervaringen over alles wat met ecologische strobalenbouw te maken heeft en we hebben veel kunnen netwerken! Na de ESBG 2007 voelden we enorm veel positieve energie en we proberen die energie nu als echte stro-apostels in de werking van Casa Calida te steken...

Tijdens de ESBG 2007 hebben we onder de 150-tal Europese congresdeelnemers een aantal werkgroepen opgestart, om belangrijke kerntaken voor een internationale samenwerking efficiënter te kunnen uitbouwen. Wij hebben vanuit Casa Calida actief meegewerkt aan de werkgroep “international gatherings’, waar we hebben besproken hoe we continuïteit in internationale strocongressen kunnen garanderen.

Uiteindelijk hebben we ons dan met Casa Calida kandidaat gesteld om de volgende ESBG in België te organiseren.

Het congres zal einde augustus 2009 doorgaan.

Het thema van de ESBG is “training and education in straw bale building”, om ons internationaal voor te bereiden op de stijgende vraag naar opleidingen in strobalenbouw. Ook zullen we tijdens het strocongres onze verschillende Europese actieve werkgroepen officieel laten samensmelten tot een nieuwe, echte internationale stro-organisatie EUSBA, the European Straw Bale Association.

Casa Calida is al druk in de weer om dit strocongres met internationale allure uit te werken. Wij hebben de juiste locatie bijna rond, leggen momenteel netwerk-contacten

Kort voor of na de ESBG, in principe enkel voor internationale strobouwers toegankelijk, organiseren we zeker ook nog interessante stro-activiteiten voor Belgische stroliefhebbers, stro-geïnteresseerden en voor het grote publiek: we denken aan een tentoonstelling over strobouw, extra cursussen en workshops, een bio-ecologische beurs samen met andere groene verenigingen,...

We hopen dat we door dit belangrijke strocongres toch wel wat media-aandacht kunnen krijgen en dat we zo de strobouw in België kunnen promoten!
